When I arrived back from our Honeymoon…

Happy Wednesday to you! If you read my last weekly drop in, then you heard my story as I was a few days away from my wedding and learned I had a thyroid tumor following my brain surgery …

This was the moment I chose to pause when I told the doc “let's chat when I get back from my honeymoon.”

Looking back now what a profound step that was for me. I would like to say I was so smart at twenty-one years ago that I truly understood what an important decision I had made to PAUSE and reflect before taking a step forward. I teach that now with my clients and in my courses to know the “power of the pause” yet at the time I was simply following my heart. My inner guidance system realized the information was too big to take it all in with clarity, so I elected to pause and offered myself some space.

The space included our wedding surrounded by big love, our honeymoon in the gorgeous Colorado mountains and simply being present in the moment. This pause offered us some time away to tap into our hearts, moving out of our heads where we often find fear and overwhelm. Our heart is connected to our inner guidance system. Our inner guidance system is our lifeline. When we can tap into our inner guidance system we quiet the mind of chaos and listen to our peace within.

I think this is the key we are often seeking isn't it? Inner peace.

Inner peace is our state of mental and emotional calmness, where the foundation of a balanced and harmonious life is often felt. Allowing us to navigate challenges with resilience and grace. Inner peace is not about escaping reality or avoiding life's difficulties; rather it is about developing a mindset and emotional state that enables you to face life's challenges without being overwhelmed. That is what the POWER OF THE PAUSE offers.

This pause has guided me from an early age; it hasn't been until the last few years that I've been able to give it a voice and see the profound impact this practice has had on my life as I've navigated trials and hardships.

As the story goes; when I arrived back from our honeymoon I felt calm about the next step. Doing a biopsy was needed to determine a course of action. I did seven (very painful) biopsies that all came back “in-conclusive." Sadly, the only way to know if it was malignant or benign was to have surgery. I had surgery in April 1995, less than a year after my brain surgery. The surgery went well, and the tumor was benign. However, they needed to remove half of my thyroid to fully remove the tumor. Hormone challenges would be eminent, yet we felt grateful and eager to put this chapter behind us.

In May 1995 we purchased our first home. Feeling elated and excited as newlyweds to have our own place to call home and start our Devenish Duo adventures. We had so much fun with family & friends as we brough it to life, I really love to decorate and add personality to spaces around me. It was a magical time with so much to be grateful for.

A few weeks later, I went in for an annual MRI of my brain following the one-year anniversary. I got some news that led me on my next spiritual journey… they found a re-occurring pituitary brain tumor.
